Helping Clients Navigate Fear:

Understanding the Neuroscience of Fear and the Mind's Resistance to Change

This three-hour, trauma-informed, live virtual training is designed to equip mental health professionals with a deeper understanding of fear, what it actually is, why it exists, and how to help clients move through it in lasting, meaningful ways.

Most clients are not struggling with fear because something is wrong with them. They are struggling because their nervous systems are doing exactly what they were designed to do, protect them from the unfamiliar. When clinicians understand this distinction, the work shifts. Fear stops being something to fix and becomes something to understand, work with, and ultimately move through.

Participants will leave with a neuroscience-informed framework for fear, practical somatic tools, and six evidence-informed strategies for fostering a more empowered, compassionate relationship with fear and change.

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the biological basis of fear, including how the autonomic nervous system generates and sustains fear responses, understand interoception and its role in triggering autonomic responses, and identify ways to help clients regulate in the moment.Ā
  2. Identify why somatic interventions are essential for creating a felt sense of safety in the body and demonstrate at least three somatic exercises that can be immediately implemented in clinical practice using a trauma-informed, permission-based approach.
  3. Describe how old programming, beliefs, and adaptive behaviors show up at the edge of change, explain how the mind resists growth, and articulate six evidence-informed strategies for helping clients move through fear.
